Today the concrete polishers started on our kitchen/living/dining space downstairs. So exciting! I can't wait until it is all ready, not only does polished concrete look amazing, but it is a really easy care and versatile flooring.
For Phase 1 they brought the concrete back to the aggregate, what you can see in the picture is a part of the floor with water on it, giving a better indication of what it will look like once it is fully polished. The lighter section is pretty much what the whole floor looks like at the moment as it is covered in concrete dust.
The dusty, half finished floor
It doesn't look like much at the moment, but the first image gives a fair indication of what it will look like in terms of the aggregate exposure. There are many options with polished concrete, from coloured aggregate to dyed concrete in a rainbow of colours. We chose to go with a basic grey concrete and a blue-grey basalt aggregate because it will go with just about anything and we can chop and change the decor without having to worry about it.
Polishing in progress
Polishing concrete is a messy business! Tomorrow they will come back to actually polish it up to the level of shine that we have chosen- not so shiny that it reflects light back too strongly, but shiny enough that it is easy to keep clean. Stay tuned for Phase 2 of the Concrete Polishing adventure, I can't wait to see it!
