Things are really coming along now!

A little update on the renovations. All is going well at the moment; as far as progress it has been a big week! The kitchen cabinets have gone in, lots of little bits and pieces of timber work have been done around the place, bits of electrical work have been done, and the ensuite tiling has started.

The kitchen benches are in!
Kitchen cabinets! Don't worry, they are not a sickly blue colour, that's just the colour of the protective sheeting. I am so happy with them; there is so much drawer space and the soft close action is so luxurious. The corner cabinet has a pull out feature so that you can use the whole cabinet, and the tall pantry cabinets pull out too.

Kitchen lights and our gorgeous sink
Really happy with the kitchen sink too, I think it looks great. The cabinet with one handle next to the sink is the dishwasher, and we can't wait until we can use it! The table belongs to the carpenter but it is positioned almost where the island will go, so it is giving us a pretty good idea of what the space will be, we're just going to get a slightly larger bench.

I changed my mind on the light fixtures at the last second; originally we were going to have two of the larger ones spaced evenly over the island bench. I was looking at the display in Ikea and they had all three sizes hanging from the ceiling. I just made an on the spot call that I would prefer two sizes offset rather than two even pendants. I think they look great so I am glad I made that snap decision.

A big mess and cool light fixtures
We also bought several basic light fixtures from Ikea too, and they were just $20 each. Talk about bargain! The cord has a maximum length of 1.8m, so we've also selected these ones for the void area. You can put whatever shade you like over the top of the standard one, or you can remove the standard one altogether.

Let the tiling begin
The floor and most of the side walls have been tiled in the ensuite. The back wall is bluestone to match the floor, and the floor of the shower is river pebble. You can see some of the white wall tiles in the centre of the picture there, they are an unusual size (600x100) and caused a little bit of confusion with our tiler Kim.

I wanted them spaced randomly rather than in even rows, so he promptly said "You're crazy girl! People don't do that!" I laughed and said "That's okay Kim, I'm not 'people'." He laughed and said he'd do it anyway. It looks really good so far. He also told me I was crazy when I said I wanted grey grout for the white tiles.

We've had such a busy day today running around like chooks with our heads cut off picking up bits and pieces to finish the house. We also managed to stop by the Have You Met Miss Jones sale and pick up a few lovely pieces. I can't wait to be able to show you some more progress, there's so much happening this week!
